Pediatric Orthopedics

WHAT IS PEDIATRIC ORTHOPEDICS?

Pediatric Orthopedics is the diagnosis and treatment of childhood injury or disease involving bones, joints and muscles. At Esse Health Orthopedics, we specialize in childhood Fracture Care, Sports Injuries and Scoliosis Evaluations.

Fracture Care is especially important in growing children. It is crucial that any crack or break in a bone is evaluated thoroughly and set correctly. As your child is continuing to grow, monitoring the way the bone is healing is very important. Your Esse Health Orthopedic Surgeon will evaluate the break and work out a Fracture Care plan to ensure quick and correct healing. An X-ray or other imaging scan may be required for diagnosis. Splints and casts can be applied in the office. If the bone is found to be out of alignment, further tests or surgery may be required.

Sports Injuries are those damages to muscles, ligaments, tendons and bones that occur while participating in a sporting activity. As with Fracture Care, your Esse Health Orthopedic Team will evaluate the injury to determine the extent of the damage and provide you with the best options for your child.

Scoliosis is a condition where the spine begins to curve. This condition can become evident when a child goes through a growth spurt. Should you notice a difference in the appearance of your child’s posture where one shoulder is higher than the other, one shoulder blade is protruding more than the other or if your child is leaning more to one side, then contact Esse Health Orthopedics for an appointment. We will evaluate your child and recommend the best treatment be it observation, physical therapy, bracing or surgery.
